Explain

I've seen worse.

+ It has the basics of a workable game and it could be quite challenging.

- Explain in the game what is going on - are we supposed to know what is bad and what is good? Give at least the most simple storyline- the character should have a name or title and he should have an objective, even if it is simple and silly- that gives a sense of purpose to the game and a clue to what we are trying to do.

- Sound. I have to say that there is no way I would have passed it without any sound- its a must for almost anything here. If you have no mike you can still pick up sounds from sites and stick at least one in at the beginning.

- It looks pretty poor at present. The players character looks like an experiment in walking characters, not what one would present as a finished character on Newgrounds. It does at least have a background, with some attempt at art. Take a look at my art tut for ideas on how to improve your art.

- Unless I am failing to grasp this game it is unfinished. I end up with the character walking endlessly in midair. Please do not submit unfinished work to NG unless it is a worthy preview for a specific reason of something you really intend to finish.

- Make sure that when you finish this and either fileswap an improved version, or if it is truly worthy of our attention, resubmit a MUCH improved one, that it has credits in it for anything or anyone who helps, even if its just someone who gave a detailed review - hint hint.

This review is my response to your post. Somehow, we passed it through judgement- make the most of that.
Impress me with your ability to improve and learn. Best of luck!

Very good game

Enjoyable game. Kept us going up the levels. Challenging times! Good that it was difficult.

Lag got annoying.

Suggestion: NIGHT LEVEL really dark, only can see much with headlamps, which should have an upgrade option to make it possible.

very good

Funny- made me actually laugh out loud a little bit, when I thought it was the end- I hated you rather a lot in that moment!

Good sound, art, animation and suitably wierd story

I think sound sites need more credit in movies than they usually get- they need to make a living too.

I won!
Yes, if the music is good enough people will read on while it plays to the end- you knew that.

Saphirus117 responds:

Thanks! Glad you liked it. I realize I did a bad job giving credit that was due in this video. I was in a rush near the end to meet a deadline and forgot which sites/users I had downloaded which sounds from. It's something I will definitely take better note of for future animations.

So...

I can actually raise your review score by giving you an honest review, so I will- you are one of us now!

It is very brief and simple. Not enough to it to really make me at all interested. The art is not too bad and the sounds are reasonable. The animation is very basic and hardly expresses what the cat would do in these situations at all, but I have seen worse.

Since I know a lot of people on this site seem to want sadistic things to do I can see why making this appealed to you- its like clubbing seals all over again.

Not to my taste, but it has some effort.

Pickilow responds:

lolol

OK, but

It will just about do as a game. It looks and works OK, but

No sound means people won't like it.

Also- they are not Squares; each is spelt thus; the beetle doesn't explode in the game as it does in the intro.

All submissions should have credits, even if you say its all by you.

Most of all make SOME KIND OF SOUNDS !

sherozia responds:

It's my second game and next games will be better

Looks good and works OK but

Not inspiring.

The authors notes are not very good english and are full of jargon which means little to someone like me that doesn't play lots of computer games.
-for example, I have no idea what CRI is, pet or maylee, so the instructions don't really tell me how to play.

There is no storyline and motive given, so I don't feel like I am fighting for a reason, just going through the same boring motions.

Obviously the sound/music is good and the graphics are more or less professional. but I still only did a couple of levels then was not inspired to progress

2858game responds:

Thank you to provide the advices, I will perfect the instruction to make audience understand. And I will inform the developers to perfect the game.

sorry

I don't really get what is going on. I can't get the guy to move anywhere much and although I can live for days, nothing really happens. Maybe I am stupid, but I think something is not clear or going wrong. I don't understand what you say about the stone. :(
Sorry. I can make the TNT go bang but nothing happens and I can't put it anywhere, so I don't get that either.

SlaxerNG responds:

Nope its exactly what it is.

Hmm calculators

It works perfectly well, but why would we want one here? Is it entertaining or actually useful? Its not that basic, it does have sine etc. It has nice big buttons and it is exactly what it says it is, so it passes with me. I would not pass a crappy calculator.

I would have given it 5 if it had sound with an off switch. I would also have prefered it if you animated the buttons so they looked as if the depressed. The fuzzy white edges look a bit odd to me, like Christmas snow on small panes of glass. You might give the calculator a brand name or logo on it.

Not bad

I couldn't get very far with it, though it seemed to work like a standard platformer. What interested me was the graphics, sound/style, which were far more interesting than the routine platform game iteself. It is quite atmospheric, and I hope there is more to this game than just avoiding falling arrows, but as I keep failing, I guess I'll never know!

GuardianBob responds:

Thx alot for your review, that was one of my goals to make it very atmospheric, so that's atleast one goal accomplished.

I would...

Give you a detailed review of this work, but it appears my serious-review colleagues have already graced you with their wisdom.

Very little passes judgment without sound, so frankly you are lucky to be here. Tell us about the character. You know you should. Dressups are two a penny. It needs SOMETHING more than just dressing up. One or two animated parts, such as blinking eyes, would make all the difference.

Please do come back with a really good dressup.

JabberWocky responds:

Sorry I made it so basic. I hate this work, actually. It was all made with the mouse, and I was supposed to be doing my homework and...OMG THAT ICON IS SO AWESOME!!

Was in the Dragon & Spirit Alliance. My DS Halloween & Christmas Quizzes are in the 2006 Collections. I am the main organiser on Wikigrounds, though I don't spend much time either there or here these days. I am a writer in the Monthly Writing and VACcomps
